| Chapter 2
Next Tip.
Links
Google will rank you higher in the searches as your domain name
ages. If you have just ordered your domain name, this may take some
time. There is a way around this. Go and get a lot of links to your
site. This is called the inbound linking strategy.
Inbound links are other websites that are linked to yours, but
you have not given them a link.
Outbound links are links going to other sites from your website.
You can check to see how many links Google recognizes, by going
here:
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en
Scroll down to page specific search, and find the text box that
says:
Links Find pages that link to the page
Type in www.yousite.com
Keep in mind, you may have more links than Google is recognizing.
That is because Google is now (at the time of this print) aging
links. That is to ensure that you are not buying links. Buying links
is not a good idea. It could get you banned from Google, then you
will have a lot of explaining to do Lucy!
Now make sure your site is not considered a "Link Farm".
A link farm is a site that you link to, and that is very random.
Sometimes, you can't help it, because you need every link you can
get. But try to stay within the bounds of what your keywords are.
If you sell widget in Chicago, then get sites that buy widgets,
or incorporate your widgets somehow.
